Last night the youth heard from Ginger Swanson! Ginger has been volunteering with our youth since it’s birth, and we were so excited to finally see her passion for Jesus in teaching form!
Ginger shared with us about a time of conflict in her life where someone was tearing her down in front of another. Ginger found herself praying that God would correct the person and show them their fault. She wanted her character to be preserved and the person to come to recognize their error. But when she finally prayed God’s Will to be done, she heard a different answer; it doesn’t matter. The song sang in her mind, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. And the things on earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace.” It didn’t matter. So many things in our lives simply become distractions, taking our eyes off Jesus. Yet, when we have our eyes on Him, these things become strangely unimportant as He only matters.
Together we all shared ways we keep our eyes on Jesus. Some of those included: reading God’s Word, journaling, seeking a mentor, talking to our parents, playing worship music, coming to Youth Group, taking notes on sermons, and finding God lessons in everyday events.
It is easy to get distracted (even the students kept distracting Ginger and each other) but when our eyes stay fixed we keep our perspective on what matters most; Him.
